Special Containment Procedures: SCP-8241 cannot be contained, and instead requires continuous procedural maintenance. Current Foundation procedures are focused on maintaining operational stability of SCP-8241 through scheduled ritual interaction.

A 10-kilometer exclusion zone around Provisional Area-08 is in effect. Unauthorized performance of SCP-8241-A within Provisional Area-08 is strictly prohibited. Personnel assigned to Provisional Area-08 are required to wear Grade-A active noise-canceling equipment at all times while within the inner perimeter.

At intervals of no more than 28 days, a designated Vocal Practitioner (hereafter VP-01) is to perform SCP-8241-A within the acoustic isolation chamber constructed above the altar’s central axis. Performances must meet or exceed a 95% accuracy rating on the Bellini-Pitch Scale (BPS).

Failure to meet this threshold constitutes a Degraded Execution Event (DEE). In the event of a DEE, immediate re-performance is to be attempted within a 6-hour window using either the primary or secondary practitioner. If SCP-8241-B progression exceeds Phase-2 manifestation, Protocol CALIBRATION FAILURE is to be enacted, including global atmospheric monitoring, tectonic stabilization measures, and preparation for XK-Class Scenario mitigation.

Research into alternative performance methodologies, including mechanical vocal synthesis and chemically augmented practitioners, is ongoing.

All current procedures are classified as delay mechanisms and are not expected to prevent eventual system failure.

Manuscript of the Aria "Casta Diva" in F Major, by Vincenzo Bellini

Description: SCP-8241 is a large-scale spacetime-acoustic system centered on Earth’s Moon, which functions as an artificial planetary stabilization engine of unknown origin. SCP-8241 regulates terrestrial gravitational consistency, atmospheric retention, and tectonic equilibrium.

SCP-8241 is maintained through periodic input of a specific acoustic sequence (SCP-8241-A), corresponding to the aria “Casta Diva” from the opera "Norma" by Vincenzo Bellini. When performed within the correct spatial and harmonic parameters, SCP-8241-A is interpreted by the lunar structure as a calibration command, dissipating accumulated thaumaturgic stress within the system.

Use of recorded, synthesized, or otherwise non-live reproductions of SCP-8241-A has been tested and deemed ineffective. SCP-8241 demonstrates no measurable response to non-biological acoustic input, indicating that performance requires real-time vocalization and micro-variations inherent to human execution. Further attempts using AI-assisted vocal synthesis have resulted in null output or partial harmonic rejection.

SCP-8241 exhibits strict tonal specificity. Analysis indicates that the system only interprets SCP-8241-A correctly in its original F major configuration as composed by Bellini. Transpositions into alternate keys (e.g. B♭ major, A♭ major) have consistently failed to produce calibration effects and may induce minor anomalous feedback. This suggests that harmonic ratios and resonant alignments embedded within the lunar structure require absolute pitch fidelity.

The only known terrestrial point at which SCP-8241-A is recognized is a Roman-era limestone altar located at Provisional Area-08 in a forested region of northern Italy. Subsurface analysis indicates the structure predates Roman occupation and contains layered architectural elements consistent with ritual sites attributed to pre-Classical Druidic groups.

Linguistic and acoustic analysis of recovered inscriptions indicates these groups utilized tonal systems derived from early forms of "Musica Universalis", encoding harmonic ratios as functional control inputs.

It is currently unknown whether SCP-8241 directly processes this input or if the altar functions as an intermediary interface transmitting the signal to a separate, unidentified intelligence associated with the lunar structure.

Improper execution of SCP-8241-A results in SCP-8241-B, a progressive destabilization state commonly referred to as the “Chrome Veil.”

During SCP-8241-B, the lunar surface undergoes visible transformation, adopting a uniform reflective structure resembling polished metal. This state produces temporary global stabilization effects, including reduction in reported physical discomfort among human populations and an increase in abnormally consistent tidal patterns. These effects persist for a maximum of 30 days.

At the conclusion of this period, SCP-8241 enters a critical overload condition. Effects upon full overload include:

  • Rapid fluctuation of Earth’s gravitational field (±18% variance)
  • Atmospheric displacement toward the lunar body
  • Formation of a visible ionized gas bridge between the Earth and Moon
  • Crustal destabilization and large-scale volcanic ejection
  • Exposure of a high-temperature mechanical core beneath the lunar surface

Public awareness of SCP-8241-B manifestations has historically been mitigated through large-scale disinformation campaigns, atmospheric anomaly cover stories, and the distribution of Class-B Amnestics in affected regions. Historical records suggest that prior partial manifestations were misattributed to astronomical anomalies, mass psychological events, or religious phenomena.

No confirmed instance exists in which SCP-8241 has improved in stability.

The following addenda have been provided for Level 4 personnel or above requiring extended context regarding SCP-8241's operational history, failure states, ongoing degradation, and current status.

Addendum SCP-8241.1 - Research Notes

The following note has been compiled and annotated by Dr. Elia Verri, Lead Researcher assigned to Provisional Area-08, following a sequence of irregularities observed in SCP-8241-A performance outcomes.

Despite strict adherence to the established "Pasta Standards," recent executions have produced measurable deviations in SCP-8241's response profile. While individually negligible, these anomalies display a consistent pattern of cumulative instability.

These findings indicate that the current calibration model may be incomplete or subject to progressive degradation over time.

Subsequent addenda provide supporting documentation, including historical records, performance analyses, and a summary of the most recent partial SCP-8241-B manifestation event, hereafter designated CVE-01 ("Chrome Veil Event" – Partial Manifestation).

Addendum SCP-8241.2 - Historical Records (Recovered Materials)

Source: Documents attributed to Vincenzo Bellini, dated July 1829. Translated from Italian and recovered from private archives and authenticated by Foundation historians.
Translation and interpretation conducted by the Foundation Linguistics Division.
Documents represent composer Vincenzo Bellini speaking to his presumed pupil, Giuditta Pasta, who initialized the current "Pasta Standards."

"This sound, Giuditta, does not belong to us. It never did. I have only arranged what was already written in our world when the stars told me I was ready, and when they waited for me."

"Tonight, she sang as if the world itself lined on her breath. I do not believe she understood what she was doing. I am not certain I do either, because I am afraid man will never again touch the moon like me and Norma did."

"Of light there was no source. It filled the room and yet cast no shadow. When I looked, the Moon appeared. I could not believe my eyes, for it was brighter than usual. Such beautiful creatures, the stars."

"If this is a machine, then God forgive me, as I have learned how to touch it."

Accompanying these writings are fragmented harmonic notations not present in the finalized version of SCP-8241-A. Several sequences are annotated as "unsingable," "unplayable," or marked for "removal."

Addendum SCP-8241.3 - Degraded Execution Event Log

Date: 2/04/2026
Performer: VP-01
Performance Accuracy: 94.7% BPS
Classification: Degraded Execution Event (DEE) | SCP-8241-B Initiated.

<Begin Log>

02:14 — Performance begins within acceptable parameters.

03:47 — Minor pitch instability detected during upper register transition.

03:52 — VP-01 pauses for approximately 3.8 seconds. No physiological anomalies detected. Subject later reports "sudden loss of breath control."

04:21 — Performance resumes. Harmonic deviation recorded at 73.2%.

05:30 — Lunar monitoring systems detect initial albedo shift.

07:01 — VP-01 exhibits visible distress. Subject later reports sensation of "being listened to."

09:42 — Performance officially concludes below required accuracy threshold.

11:21 — SCP-8241-B confirmed.

<End Log>

Here follows a post-event voicemail from Dr. Verri, referring to all Site Personnel Level 4 (or above) and the Ethics Committee:

"It has come to my attention that deviation cannot be attributed solely to technical failure. I'm not the only one saying this; the performer is too. He described resistance and toughness in his throat, as though the system itself rejected the input. Now, I have no idea how to sing, so I'm no expert, but it doesn't take a genius to realize that this is approaching critical failure thresholds. This behavior has not been observed in prior executions and is very concerning to me.
I don't think ANY OF YOU realize that this thing can END THE WORLD!

DO YOU REALIZE THE GRAVITY OF THE SITUATION!? DO YOU EVEN LISTEN TO RESEARCHERS' REQUESTS? ARE YOU EVEN LISTENING TO ME RIGHT NOW!? YOU POWER-HUNGRY IDIOTIC FUC-"

Transmission suddenly halts. It was later confirmed that Dr. Verri was subdued and administered tranquilizers by on-site security.

An AI-assisted monitoring system was subsequently developed to analyze input-output patterns from SCP-8241-A and interface with previously identified signal relay structures on the lunar surface, believed to have been installed during the Apollo 11 mission.

Addendum SCP-8241.4 - Chrome Veil Event (Partial Manifestation)

Following the DEE documented in Addendum SCP-8241.3, SCP-8241-B ("Chrome Veil" Phase) progressed to Phase-2 manifestation.

Within six hours, the following global effects were recorded:

  • Gravitational fluctuation across multiple monitoring stations (peak variance of ±22%)
  • Reduction in reported physical pain among global populations (estimated decrease of 64%)
  • Visible transformation of the lunar surface into a uniform reflective structure
  • Formation of upper-atmospheric ionization bands oriented towards the Moon

At T+5h 12m, an emergency secondary performance was initiated by VP-02.

Performance Accuracy: 96.2% BPS
Result: Partial system recalibration achieved

SCP-8241-B progression was halted prior to escalation into a full Chrome Veil Event (CVE).

Post-event lunar imaging, however, revealed the presence of previously unrecorded structural fractures across multiple regions of the lunar surface.

Addendum SCP-8241.5 - Ongoing Degradation Report

Post-event analysis indicates that SCP-8241 has not returned to baseline operational stability.

Despite successful interruption of SCP-8241-B ("Chrome Veil Phase"), lunar structural anomalies persist and continue to expand at a measurable rate.

Additionally, three consecutive performances exceeding 95% BPS have resulted in minor but cumulative deviations in system response.

Current evidence suggests that SCP-8241 is not only degrading but may be progressively rejecting repeated calibration attempts, indicating a possible shift in system behavior or external interference.

No known variation of SCP-8241-A has successfully restored full system stability.

Supplementary Note - Recovered Material (Bellini Archive Fragment)

Two years after CVE-01, additional documents attributed to musician and composer Vincenzo Bellini's private diary were discovered. They were recovered from previously inaccessible private archives. Linguistic authentication remains ongoing.

"Giuditta believes perfection is the key. I believed so as well. But I now understand that perfection only slows our goal. It does not stop it, even if it is the final goal of a musician, as a friend of mine reminded the Moon and me."

"So there will come a time when no voice, however divine, will reach it. When that moment arrives, the stars will learn to wait for all of us, when destiny has ripped apart our knowledge."

Conclusions:
Currently effective Standards are no longer sufficient to maintain SCP-8241 indefinitely.

Orders by O5 Command: Continue performance schedule.

Deviation is no longer considered a variable.
