Special Containment Procedures:
SCP-9193 is held in a temperature controlled containment drydock in ██████, New Jersey, under the management of Site-83.
Visitors to SCP-9193 may board the vessel with written approval from Researcher A. Bykov, under supervision from containment drydock security staff. Anyone wishing to enter the main cabin compartment of SCP-9193 must wear a disposable coverall, gloves, and full face respirator, which are available on-site for use.
Any materials, samples, written descriptions, videos, photos, or items taken from within SCP-9193 must be first inspected in-person by Researcher A. Bykov, with the understanding that all research relating to SCP-9193 will be kept at Site-83 for further study.
Persons within the cabin compartment are limited to 6 hours within a 24 hour window, and any person who detects a smell reminiscent of cooked food, home, petrichor, plants (including flowers), animals, or perfume/cologne must exit the vessel and inform security staff immediately.
Offsite research of SCP-9193 may only be conducted after submitting a Form-917A/F-S83 proposal and participation in an in-person research outcome review by Researcher A. Bykov and the Site-83 director.
Description:
SCP-9193 is a 9.8 meter long, 2.6 meter wide fishing boat similar to the VKM-3M produced by Kolpashevskaya Dockyard in the town of Kolpashevо, USSR between 1957-1981.
Representation of SCP-9193 from SCPCAD, showing SCP-9193-A and its base. The maroon paint is displayed where it is below the water line.
The exterior appears to have no major structural or design differences from a standard VKM-3M excluding a recent, haphazardly applied coat of maroon paint on the hull that extends from the top of the cabin to approximately the waterline, including the entirety of the deck.
Below the waterline, the vessel shows signs of wear consistent with that of a steel-hulled vessel that has seen 15-20 years of regular net-fishing use. On the aft of the boat, the name “красный кролик” is shoddily hand-painted in black block-lettering. SCP-9193 does not have an attached rudder or propeller, and instead displays sheared metal attachment points and a bent, rusted driveshaft.
Storage compartments on the exterior of the vessel contain poorly maintained fishing and safety gear, which is otherwise unremarkable, outside of a small tarnished bronze plaque in the port aft locker that states the production year of “785” in the town of “Ново-Архангельск” by the “Верфь Императорской Российско-Американской компании.”
The interior of the cabin displays significant alterations from the standard VKM-3M model, including the removal of all partition walls, engine, head, and navigation equipment. A large sphere measuring two meters in diameter, is affixed to the aft by a large oval-shaped bakelite stand. The sphere is seemingly two joined halves of an (as so far) impermeable glass-like material. The bottom half is an opaque black, while the top half is a clear shell with a thickness of around 5 cm. Inside the shell is a live, three dimensional representation of SCP-9193 and the surrounding 10 meters, formed out of a black liquid that takes the shape of the vessel, the surrounding water, and other relevant features, with a minimum resolution of 10 cm.
The clear shell has several significant cracks (varying from 20 to 100 cm long) that radiate out from an impact point near the top, which appears to have come from inside the shell. Attempts to sample the material from the cracks or by removing small samples for testing has yielded no results, and does not match our understanding of current material sciences. Attempts to weigh the sphere, or move the sphere off of the base, have also proven to be impossible without complete deconstruction of the stern.
SCP-9193-A is believed to be an anomalous propulsion and navigation device that is either offline or broken, and is keeping the vessel pointed toward magnetic north. Attempts to shift the bow of the vessel away from 3-4 degrees of magnetic north using external force, or imparting more than 1-2 degrees of pitch or roll to the vessel increases resistance until further force would damage the steel structure of SCP-9193.
The rest of the interior includes a cast-iron bucket, several 2 liter glass jugs of water, an empty oil lantern, and a metal table near the bow that has been poorly welded to the floor. On the table are stacks of thin brown bakelite tablets inscribed with depth maps, shipping lanes, and navigation charts for the Bering Sea and Chukchi Sea. Notability, there are some topographical and political differences on these maps that do not match our current timeline. Major changes have been outlined below:
- The eastern Russian areas of Kamchatka Krai and the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug are visible on most maps but show no state separations, and the map lists that area as “Императорское Российское Царство”
- Western Alaska is visible to around 149° W latitude, with the area listed as “Заселенный Восток”
- The shipping lanes between Eastern Russia and Western Alaska suggest a high volume of cargo is transported between the two areas. Currently, marine trade between the two account for around 500 shipments per year. After consulting with experts from the Foundation logistics front company ████████████, it likely demonstrates a 100x to 150x increase in shipping traffic.
Image taken from a high resolution scan of SCP-9193-B-12, showing the scratched-in "hole" and "barrier" on the bakelite.
- St. Laurence Island, normally situated between Alaska and the Russian Chukotka Autonomous Okrug, has what appears to be a scratched-in 20 km "hole" centered on what would be the town of Savoonga, with a "barrier" around 40km off the coast.
The interior also contains noticeable amounts of metallic, carbon, and mineral dust, which is believed to be leftovers from the anomalous decomposition of organic material within the interior of SCP-9193. Organic material left within the boundary of the cabin (including while the door is open) deteriorates into basic organic compounds, which then further sublimate. This effect is visible in time-lapse photography, and is fatal to humans after 96 hours of continuous exposure. It is unknown if this is an effect related to SCP-9193-A, the vessel itself, or some yet undiscovered anomalous mechanism.
Discovery Log:
The vessel was first identified 157 miles NW off the coast of the Novaya Zemlya archipelago in the Barents Sea by the Russian science vessel Akademik Fedorov on July 25th, 2007. Upon discovering SCP-9193, the Fedorov approached the vessel within 40 meters, and attempted to hail it with radios, signal lights, horns, and megaphones - but no response was received, and no signs of passengers or crew were visible.
Assuming the vessel was abandoned, the captain of the Akademik Fedorov made a report to the Russian coast guard, noting its GLONASS location and a short description that included coded words for potential anomalous behavior/materials, before continuing its planned route to Heiss Island. The Foundation was alerted by Dr. █████ ███████, an embedded agent within the Russian Academy of Sciences in St. Petersburg, while monitoring the raw transcripts from the expedition.
Ships from the Svalbard-based Foundation Eastern Arctic Fleet (FEAF) were able to reach the “10-mile safe” radius of SCP-9193 within 6 hours, at approximately 21:00 local time. In keeping with Ship/Vessel Discovery Procedure 287-A, the ships from the FEAF began long-range all-sensor scanning, and deployed Sea Drone 353 “Sir Brancis Feaufort” to approach SCP-9193.
Scans and video feed by the drone revealed SCP-9193's bow was fixed pointing to magnetic north, and the vessel moved only on the Y-axis (up and down) with respect to normal ocean wave oscillation, but completely immobile in the X and Z axis, even when encountering 1-2 meter swells.
After no further anomalous behavior or sensor signatures were identified, FEAF ships approached to within the “1-mile engage” radius by 03:00 hours the next day, where they created a perimeter and deployed the cover story of a minor oil spill to re-route local fishing. At around 05:00 hours, the Russian coast guard was called to a shipping accident near Murmansk, and would not be available to investigate for an unknown amount of time, allowing FEAF to work undisturbed.
MTF Theta-5 (“The Bigger Boat”) was called in to investigate and arrived by helicopter at 11:00 hours, and was able to secure the vessel within 30 minutes. After retrieving some of the items within, the vessel was moved to Site-83 for further research.

Addendum 9193-1
Excerpts from the transcribed MTF Theta-5 After Action Report on 07/26/2007 by Theta-5 Γ Team Leader, Bello Omotanwa.
"… upon reaching the vessel and boarding it, we at first struggled to handle the uncharacteristic motion of it. Only moving up and down felt like we were on a roller coaster, especially in the two meter swells. Khali [Khalifatullah Afridi, MTF Theta-5-03] was really struggling, but that was not surprising as she was new to T5, and had only spent time on-base so far. We had her stay outside and check the compartments, because Malden [John Malden, MTF Theta-5-04] and I knew it would only make it worse if we took her downstairs.
We breached the door and threw in a sensor grenade, but didn’t detect anything outside of high-particulate air and a slightly higher Hume level of 3.57, so we decided to descend with our masks on. We got to the bottom of the stairs, the first thing we noticed was that sphere [SCP-9193-A], and I will be honest with you, it freaked me out a bit. Usually when we go to anomalies, the whole vessel is the issue, and finding something that… monolithic is, in my experience, not a good thing. However, after taking some handheld readings, we found no major issues with it. In fact, the little black boat inside was a nice visual, I remember we all stood there for a moment to watch it.
That was when we started to notice the smell. Malden noticed it first, he said started smelling 'something like pie' which was odd, as we had our full masks on. At the time, we were unaware of what was happening, as it didn’t seem to have any direct effect on our mission or his situational awareness. After another few minutes, I also noticed a distinct smell… to me it was like lilies. I should have flagged that as an issue at the time that it happened, because it smelled distinctly like the belladonna lily, which was my mother’s favorite flower she grew at our home in Ita [Ita, Nigeria, a suburb of Lagos]…"
"…near the bow of the vessel was the table, and on it was a very clear outline of a person in dust, or at least what used to be a person. Frank [Frank Nilsen, MTF Theta-5-02] pushed the barrel of his weapon through it, to see if a disturbance caused any reaction, but nothing happened, so he scooped some into a small bag for analysis. Next to the outline was a diary/ship's log and some navigational charts on plastic tablets [SCP-9193-B], which we picked up and added to an evidence bag.
The box we found under the table was full of more thin plastic sheets but all of it was written in what looked like Russian. Malden had some training in infohazard recognition and didn’t see anything alarming, and our visors showed all-clear, so we quickly scanned a few of the documents for information, but weren’t able to find anything of note that we could understand. As I finished pulling out the sheets, I noticed at the bottom of the box there was a small container that contained 2 vials of yellow liquid [SCP-9193-C], one of which was slightly cracked and leaking into the box below.
The smell of flowers got much stronger then, and that’s when I realized I didn’t recognize the location I was in, which alarmed me as I remember the “feeling” of knowing… I think? I haven’t been exposed to many harmful memory altering SCPs at the Foundation, but I do remember the memetic inoculation process for certain eyes-only documents. This felt different. More like I was sliding down a hill, rather than having something 'sliced out' if that makes sense? So I immediately put the box down on top of the table and called for evac due to an unknown hazard…"
Addendum 9193-2
Excerpts from the report on MTF Theta-5 assessment and recovery after their exposure to SCP-9193-C, by FEAF Chief Medical Officer Martin Gustafsson.
…after assessing the team that boarded the boat including E. Brunström (01), F. Nilsen (02) K. Afridi (03), J. Malden (04), and Team Lead B. Omotanwa (05), it was determined that the members who entered the cabin were suffering from an unknown chemical affecting memory to various degrees. I believe the damaged vial they found contains something akin to an "memory infohazard," or an infohazard-developing precursor, which we believe was introduced through a novel route to the brain via the olfactory nerve after coming into contact with aerosolized -C.
I, nor anyone on my team, is aware of this route being used to deploy an infohazard, although there are several Foundation research papers on the subject that explore theories on how this may be accomplished. In summary, due to the direct connection from the olfactory bulb to the amygdala and hippocampus, there is a high likelihood that using this route to deploy an infohazard is specifically targeted to alter memory.
In this case, it seems that -C is a memory recall infohazard (I struggle even to call it an infohazard, as it seems to be more complex than most I have treated in the past) whose method of action is somewhat like the Class-A airborne amnestics the foundation uses, but is triggered on the initiation of a specific, highly-regarded scent memory from childhood.
From our limited understanding (D-Class testing is still ongoing) when -C is used the first time, it “binds” to the memory. Repeated exposure to -C, or the real-life scent from the bound memory, deconsolidates memory from the previous 5-9 hours from time of exposure. However, all 3 agents (02, 05, and 04) exposed were using Foundation NBC-rated masks which may have limited their exposure and impact on memory. One notable difference is the experience of -C compared to amnestic treatment, which is described as “floating” “relaxing” or “smoothly descending.” It is unknown if this is an intended experience of -C…
…All three agents responded well to mnestic treatment (Class-W, 15ml/hr intravenous) and regained clear memories of their experience on the boat, but further exposure to -C or the bound scent still deconsolidates memory as before. Animal testing has revealed that continuous exposure to -C and the triggering scent for periods of longer than 10 minutes cause a cascading feedback effect, which can cause permanent mental deterioration and damage to…
…Treatment is ongoing, with some limited success being shown in combining Class-W treatment with exposure to the bound scent, although all three agents have not fully recovered one year on from first exposure to -C…
Addendum 9193-3
Excerpts from a 217-page report by Researcher A. Bykov and his team on SCP-9193.
…after the items were thoroughly cleaned to remove any traces of -C, and the box discarded for the same reason, we went about translating the reports contained inside, as well as the charts and ships log.
In total, there were 75 pages of documentation, 13 charts, and 68 pages in the ship's log book - all of which were composed of non-organic plastized material. Translation was slow, as they were written in an extremely formal, historical Russian lexicon, much closer to Middle Russian. As far as my team is aware, there are no other examples of this dialect seen before at the Foundation, which complicated the process significantly…
….major breakthroughs were made when we compared them to historical texts from the Lithuanian-Rus (a huge thank you again to Researcher F. Jankauskas at Site-120, who helped us get connected with the right people at the Lithuanian State Historical Archives) which again bolstered our theory that SCP-9193 came from a reality with alternate historical influences than our current baseline reality, in which the Lithuanian crown fell under the Russian crown, as opposed to the Polish crown.
When taking all of the information found in SCP-9193 in totality, we are able to infer:
- A technology level similar to European states in the 1930s, but with specific areas of significantly higher scientific progress
- A monarchic government still led by a Tzar, known for both ostentatious spending and byzantine rules/management, using extremely formal long-winded language and their own unique calendar
- A massive imperial footprint, stretching from modern day Poland in the west, India and China in the south, and all the way into Canada in the east
Although we have limited information on how this came to pass, we believe that the union of Lithuania and Russia provided enough manpower and resources to catapult the fledgling Russian state into a European powerhouse that dominated Asia…
…the documents from SCP-9193 primarily outline anomalous items and events that took place between the listed years of “647-834” cataloged by the “4-й Тайный Совет Императорской Короны” or “The 4th Hidden Council of the Imperial Crown.” This organization appears to be formed specifically to collect and experiment on the anomalous for the benefit of the imperial state, and who reported directly to the Tzar or his court…
…the entire translation is available in Appendix R.7 of this report. However, there are few anonymous events/locations/items that we would like to highlight here, some of which appear to be closely related to existing, registered anomalies contained by the Foundation.
- An extra-dimensional city known as “The Imperial Annexation, Grey Grozny” which has a population of around 16,000 people. The city is accessible through several warehouses throughout the Russian imperial state, and is known for its perpetual overcast skies and low temperatures. According to the document, the city was taken over by Russia in the year “712” and is primarily used as a closed-city for weapons manufacturing. They have an ice hockey team that regularly plays against other closed-cities for the “All-Special-Designation-City Chalice for Ice Sports and Commitment to Imperial Values” trophy.
- An effect taking place in the “Siberian Reserve For Winter And Nature As Blessed By His Majesty Peter The Ninth, Central Area” where persons with “Known Disorders of Mental Instability and Health” have gone missing. This effect had been related to the disappearances of around 890 people before it was discovered by the council in the year “699”, when part of the reserve was developed into a specialized re-education camp for political prisoners after the “War Against the Disgusting and Vile Arisen Peasants Who Are Traitors To Their Country, Dynasty, And Families.” It is not stated if this camp is successful in reeducating those imprisoned there, only that it houses around 120,000 people.
- A report on ████████████.
The longest document at 14 pages is a a highly apologetic and formal recounting of the explosion that took place on “12th Glorious Day of Tzar Feodor’s Month, 834” on modern day St. Laurence Island, listed in the record as “The White Island of Egorova.” The document outlines the construction and preparation of an eigenweapon “Natasha’s Heart” that uses shaped explosives to compress a “Sphere of Our Mother’s Tears” into a “Dark Eucharist for Heaven’s Mouth” which, and as described in the paper, would annihilate a perfect sphere of a “5-verst” (approx. 5.33 km) diameter within a 10 second period.
In relation to “Natasha’s Heart,” we can assume that paratechnology is involved, as even though it describes a process similar to the first implosion-design nuclear warheads developed in our baseline reality, “Natasha’s Heart” was described to be only around one meter wide, and even a modern, multi-stage nuclear device that size would not provide enough yield to vaporize the approximately 79.283 km of earth needed to create a crater of that magnitude.
From the included report, we believe the final proof of concept was meant to detonate on the day after the accident. The writer, listed as “His Majesty’s Head Scientist for Our Sacred Natasha” and “16th Member of the Hidden Council” (nine other extraneous titles have been excluded) does not go into detail on what caused the accident, only that he believes it was related to “Unholy Forces” that were meant to “unseat Him and His glorious, feverish work on The Council.” It also states that around 1000 people were killed, 19 shipping boats were destroyed, and the resulting tidal wave caused “unfortunate but not unexpected” damage to the nearby coastlines…
Addendum 9193-4
Translated excerpts from the ships log and associated diary, signed by “Dr. Aleksey F. Krylov, Order of St. Anna.”
Page 2
I cannot hardly believe that my sweet father, whom I loved to the ends of the empire in spite of his ravings and musings and poor lifestyle, has passed this small meager fishing ship “Red Rabbit” unto me upon his passing. As a young child, I wished for nothing more than to spend time with him upon the decks of this vessel, when he would let me assist in his great effort to find the meat of the oceans for the great people of our empire.
But now, I find myself slowly meandering through its depths, and find only that he has let it go to ruin as he had the rest of his lowly life. I, an esteemed one, who has the ear of the great scientist and councilor Maksimilian Kuzmin (who speaks directly to the Tzar himself!) find only embarrassment and sadness here. I shall not be seen on this tepid excuse of a vessel until it is fitting of a man of my stature and potential, I refuse this!
Page 24
My first and only daughter, who has my glorious dark hair and to whom I shall bestow all knowledge from my head, has asked something I could hardly believe. She wished to go with me on a sea adventure, to relive the glory days on my grandfather’s simple boat for her 13th birth celebration! Perhaps I have spent too much time sharing stories with her of my esteemed younger days and adventures, but thanks be to the Tzar that I had several local peasants (of whom I paid in cheap grain alone, the fools!) repaint it into a shining royal blue the year last. It is now named “The Proud Imperial Star.” She shall not think of her father the way I think of mine, and she shall see true pride in our lineage in a way I cannot.
Page 42
I do not know of why, even though I scream into Christ’s heavens for all answers, I still take this limping, cursed vessel out of the harbor… perhaps it eases my turbid, reckless mind in some way. It has been too long since the sea has taken my daughter from me and promised her eternity in the icy depths of hell. It was I who inspired in her a love of the waves, was it not? It was also I who suggested she join His Perfect Majesty’s Fleet, even though I had a great mind to believe a calamitous war was coming, one in which the Imperial Navy would play a pivotal role? I considered only glory, and I considered her as someone who should take it, as I did.
I now start the most complex and meaningful work of my life on a new high council created by His Shining Majesty Himself, but my mind lay deep elsewhere, in the darkening waves. Natasha, I hope in your last thoughts you believed in your father, even though he has reason to blame himself for all our familial folly. You were my better, and your mother (bless her aching soul) would have loved to see the fastidious and powerful woman you were.
Page 51
The boat is all but lost, but I cannot let it go into the sea like my Dear Natatasha The Heart of My Heart. Our council, who meets only but once per year to discuss research findings and report into St. Petersburg, is feckless and impotent - and has not a way to maintain their many eyes on our many projects. I have taken materials for myself, in which I will repair this boat and ensure it can ride the dark seas until long after my death. We are developing many an innovation for His Peerless Majesty, and I shall not rest until the Star Motion Sphere guides my life and limb, just as it does for the many ships of our Unstoppable Navy.
I shall hire another set of Revolting Peasants to do this task for me, as I am so far above such things as that I shall be in the stars themselves!
Page 55
Perhaps I have truly been cursed in this life! I flow effortlessly through the great blue expanse as I always have, but now I cannot even think of my Sweet Long-Past Natasha, nor her Beautiful Pure Mother.
The disgusting bugs under my feet who installed the Star Motion Sphere have caused something of which I did not believe to be possible - all the fish of which I catch turn into dust before my eyes. Now I cannot partake in the Love of my simple pastime… is this the doing of a Witch Of The East? Has one of those wretched vermin paid a foreign adversary to target me? Me, the One Who Has Moved All Earth Through Love… me, who has only thought of the care and comfort of each sweet member of our Glorious Empire. I shudder to think of what other heartless and targeted attacks that will be imposed upon my thankless brow.
Page 63
It is done - I take my vessel out for the last time as a simple nobleman, as The Glorious Majestic One On The Imperial Throne shall surely provide me with an Order of the Holy Apostle Andrew the First-Called upon the completion of Our Great Work. In a few sundowns we shall show the world what Glorious Russian Imperial Science can do, and no God, nor Man, nor politic shall rival our limitless Fantastical Power.
We can do no wrong upon this world, as we are its rightful Owners and Leaders. I have been so blessed to be under His Wing as he has shown me the way, and the naysayers on our Feeble Council will plant kisses upon my Golden Feet once they view with astonishment the voluminous gaping hole in the Weak Earth. Natasha’s Heart will prove to Him, once and for all, that I should lead us into The Future.
Page 64
Tens of thousands are dead, and I cannot even begin to describe… I thought myself to be someone kingly, a leader, but I am no better than my weak drunk of a father. The device produced four times the predicted magnitude… it wasn’t possible… I can’t understand it.
I should have personally checked the Tears, but I did not, believing myself above such things. Now, I can still see that pure, black wall which enveloped everything when I close my eyes. The screams on the radio… I shall never forget. It is burned into my cursed soul.
Natasha, I wanted you to be proud of your father, but will you be able to see me in hell from your seat in heaven? Will you forgive me for using your name to bring wicked death to our own people?
I will be hanged for this. I cannot stand to see the looks on their smirking faces at my trial. I am the picture of failure, like my father.
I am him. He is me.
This may be my last entry here. I am leaving with this boat, which I have disguised, to find refuge in foreign lands - I only hope that what I bring will be enough to barter for my safety.
Page 65
I pushed the sphere too hard, and now it is broken. I cannot see land, nor can I see another vessel to call for help. The phial of Peter’s Absolution has broken during the impact (impact of what, I do not know, as I was thrown against the wall and unconscious for a time) and now I believe only have mere minutes - it has taken to my memory of this boat. I can feel it.
Look upon me with grace from your perch in heaven. Forgive me, my
