Don't forget. Or do. It'll wind up here either way.

SCP-9255 (Configuration OL4)

Item №: SCP-9255

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: Containment of SCP-9255 is under the purview of the Applied Antimemetics Section. Surveillance devices may not be left in SCP-9255 while it is unoccupied. In the event of interaction with SCP-9255, personnel are to make a written account of their experience immediately after exiting.

Description: SCP-9255 is a space within Site-17 that does not exist, accessible via an antimemetic unlocked door on level 9, corridor 3-F. It admits only one individual at a time, becoming sealed from the outside while it is occupied. SCP-9255's interior dimensions and structure are variable, changing for each occupant. In the event that an individual enters SCP-9255, the previous occupant will forget what they experienced while inside the anomaly.

Addendum 9255-1: Notable Configurations

Designation: Configuration GH1

Occupant: Researcher Griffin Hayes

Description: A wide chamber containing a large indoor swimming pool. A wooden table and four chairs are on a floating platform at the pool's center. Paper plates and plastic utensils have been set out on the table, arranged around a large pair of dentures.

Comments: "I swam competitively when I was in college, but had to quit when I injured myself on the edge of the pool and needed to get reconstructive surgery."

Designation: Configuration DF5

Occupant: Dr. Deirdre Fonseca

Description: Interior of an enclosed telephone kiosk. While it is not possible to exit the kiosk, its windows look out on a larger chamber, which is taken up by a scale model of downtown Chicago, Illinois. The chamber's walls appear to be made of cardboard.

Comments: "The phone booth reminded me of the sort they had when I was growing up in Altgeld Gardens — in fact, there was some scribbled graffiti under the handset that looks like my old handwriting. Very nostalgic!"

Designation: Configuration AW3

Occupant: WITNESS HEREDITANT

Description: A grove of trees with thick, carmine-colored leaves; pieces of inflatable furniture are held aloft by their boughs. A 3 meter high wall of uneven stones encircles the space. There is a broken astronomical telescope in a small clearing near the grove's northern edge. It is night, and many stars are visible.

Comments: "I don't want to talk about it."

Addendum 9255-2: Incident 9255-A

Security Footage Log

[BEGIN LOG]

[Dr. Fonseca leans against the wall next to the door to SCP-9255, tapping her foot idly. She nods to a passing security guard.]

Dr. Fonseca: Morning.

[The guard does not acknowledge her greeting, appearing unaware of her presence. The door to SCP-9255 opens, and Researcher Hayes stumbles out.]

Dr. Fonseca: Cool, right? What'd you see in there?

Hayes: I think it was some kind of swimming pool for dentists? I couldn't make heads or tails of it.

Dr. Fonseca: Interesting. Did you take pictures?

Hayes: Yes ma'am. Is it really true that nothing in there is real?

Dr. Fonseca: That's right. It's a completely habitable gap in reality.

Hayes: A gap? Wouldn't something like that be empty?

Dr. Fonseca: We think it's a kind of conceptual vacuum. When you go inside, your perceptions are drawn in to fill it.

Hayes: And it's safe to keep this in an inhabited site?

Dr. Fonseca: Do you really think we'd show it off to every newbie if it was dangerous? It's essentially an empty room.

Hayes: …Right.

[Dr. Fonseca smiles.]

Dr. Fonseca: Now, I hope you like seafood, because the next stop on our little tour is Site-17's aquarium of antimemetic Anguilla anguilla

[END LOG]

The following incident log is sourced from a Foundation-issue camera that was discovered inside SCP-9255 during Researcher Lupe Aguilar's introductory tour.

Incident Log 9255-A

[BEGIN LOG]

[Footage opens on a room with opaque, luminescent glass walls, indeterminate light sources perpetually shifting behind them. An oversized trophy is at the center of the room. It is heavily dented and its plate appears to have been removed. A stack of textbooks leans against one wall. Researcher Hayes voice comes from out of frame.]

Hayes: Is this…? Okay, good.

[Researcher Hayes clears his throat.]

Hayes: So, I'm back in SCP-9255. As expected, the interior is different than the first time I was here… I know this anomaly isn't my responsibility, but— I mean, something like this shouldn't be left alone. Someone competent had to look into it.

[The camera turns back and forth as Researcher Hayes begins to pace.]

Hayes: I have a theory. I think 9255 doesn't draw from our perception, necessarily. I think it's using what we've forgotten. In my case, the swimming pool must've been from my college, the table matched furniture from a photo of my ex-girlfriend's old apartment, the textbooks here are probably things I've read, and the trophy… it doesn't matter where it's from.

[Researcher Hayes stops pacing.]

Hayes: The question is, is 9255 pulling things from my head or my history?

[Researcher Hayes clears his throat again.]

Hayes: Experiment one. I'm going to take a very mild amnestic, to see if that stimulates anything in 9255. It's only a big enough dose to forget the past few minutes, I don't want to forget where I am or why I'm here.

[Camera jostles as Researcher Hayes takes out the amnestic one handed.]

Hayes: Okay, administering the amnestic… Mm. There. Now, what was I… Oh! It's empty. I must've—

[The room appears to shudder slightly. The walls recede about 0.5 meters, causing the leaning pile of textbooks to partially collapse. Researcher Hayes makes a sound of surprise, startling.]

Hayes: Ah, it worked. I might be on to somethi—

[The room shudders again. The walls recede another ~0.5 meters, sending the remaining stacked textbooks crashing to the floor.]

Hayes: Looks like I stimulated the anomaly a little more than I expec—

[The room shudders, more violently than before. The walls and ceiling begin to recede again, and do not stop. In the newly opened space, other random objects are visible: a grandfather clock, an oversized ball of yarn, a small pile of toothbrushes.]

Hayes: Maybe I should… I should…

[The camera tumbles out of Researcher Hayes' hands, landing upside down. He stumbles into frame, visibly swaying on his feet.]

Hayes: Where am I?

[Researcher Hayes crumples to his knees.]

Hayes: Oh… I see now. It's a vacuum. You make a hole and… it all… goes…

[Researcher Hayes slumps over, his face turned away from the camera. The ceiling and walls continue to recede until they are beyond the range of the camera, presumably continuing afterwards. Footage continues without incident for 6 hours, 17 minutes, and 43 seconds, after which Researcher Hayes begins to stir. When he speaks once more, his voice is sluggish, barely a murmur.]

Hayes: Quieta non movere.

[Footage ends due to insufficient battery.]

[END LOG]

Outside of files relating to SCP-9255, no record of Griffin Hayes' existence has been found.
