9480.0.1 - An instance of SCP-9480-A-2 as scanned and catalogued by Project Alexandria
Special Containment Procedures: The cover story concerning the mineshaft containing SCP-9480 is to be maintained until SCP-9480 is deemed safe to relocate. Any trespassers to the mineshaft are to be treated with an appropriate amount of force and treated with amnestics as not to arouse rumours or suspicion.
Description: SCP-9480 is a hollow missile-shaped object measuring roughly 10 x 10 x 50 metres composed largely of graphite and diamond. The interior of SCP-9480 is mostly empty, barring a structure loosely resembling a bookshelf along the eastern wall and an additional structure at the rear. This bookshelf-esque structure (designated SCP-9480-A-1) is positioned between two black 2 x 10 metre rectangular portals (collectively named SCP-9480-A-0) at the front and back of SCP-9480 respectively.
SCP-9480-A-1 is of indeterminate length, and only 50m of it is visible at any one time. The remainder is seemingly contained within a pocket dimension (hereafter SCP-9480-A) beginning at either of the afforementioned SCP-9480-A-0 instances. SCP-9480-A-1 is able to slide in the direction of either instance, allowing for different sections of SCP-9480-A-0 to become visible. Attempting to transport living beings across either instance of SCP-9480-A-0 invariably causes instant loss of function to all living faculties.
The original contents of the shelf are a series of tablets designated as SCP-9480-A-2 and SCP-9480-A-3. Instances of SCP-9480-A-2 are composed of a durable, unidentified dark grey material, and marked in an unknown golden ink-like substance with a sets of repeated symbols and diagrams. If removed from SCP-9480-A, instances will undergo a process of slow exponential decay into a mix of carbon allotropes which causes them to lose their markings. Instances which degrade to lose their markings entirely are desginated SCP-9480-A-3.
The rear structure inside SCP-9480 is a statue resembling a member of the class Caudoviricetes, although not any one species in particular. Figures resembling tailed viruses also appear in many of the diagrams recorded within Project Alexandria.
Discovery: SCP-9480 was first brought to the Foundation’s attention on 16/06/2021, after it was discovered by miners outside the town of Kimberley, South Africa. After locals were appropriately amnesticised, the mine was seized with permission from the South African government. Geological dating places the origins of SCP-9480 in the Pre-Cambrian, likely towards the early Archean.

The Wanderer’s Library was contacted for materials similar to SCP-9480-A-2 by a covert proxy who provided the Foundation with very few results before communications ceased. The likelihood of another proxy asking about said materials within The Wanderer’s Library without arousing suspicion is unlikely.
Agent Watts provided us with copies of 7 poems, all of which belonging to an anthology believed to describe a creation myth. The myth consists of many species following one after another, where the last of one species becomes the god of the next. The anthology appears to be written in the same set of symbols as instances of SCP-9480-A-2, alongside direct translations into languages known to the Foundation. These materials list the original language as "Icosagenian", a name matching a long-extinct, extradimensional parasitic species of which very little is known, other than the species' resemblance to both Caudoviricetes and diagrams shown on SCP-9480-A-2.
Due to these similarities, it is assumed that the Icosagenian language found in the poems and the symbols found on instances of SCP-9480-A-2 are the same, and from this assumption translations of select words and phrases have been obtained. Of specific interest was an instance of SCP-9480-A-2, with only a direct excerpt from one of the poems written on it:
Brave pilot, go forth and create. Build yourself out of clay, lay down in the dirt, and rest. No one is waiting. Everyone is waiting.
The instance in question was placed in the middle of an empty section of SCP-9480-A-1, with extra fortification built to secure it in place.

9480.0.3 - The relevant instance of SCP-9480-A-2. No direct translation.
The phrase shown on this instance of SCP-9480-A-2 is not believed to have a human-language parallel. Based on translators notes from the documents found in the Wanderer's Library, the first half of the phrase roughly translates to "artificial" and the second half of the phrase was a word Icosagenians used to categorise any lifeforms they used as their hosts (being a parasitic species). From this it can be surmised the phrase describes a form of "artificial prey" or geneticallly engineered livestock.
