CLASSIFIED
Item #: SCP-9441
Object Class: Euclid
Standard Foundation mahjong set
Special Containment Procedures: Foundation webcrawlers are to closely monitor and censor relevant forums for signs of SCP-9441 events based on associated keywords. A casual Filipino Mahjong league is to be fostered among Foundation personnel. Personnel are required to use personal funds to make payouts and may not utilize research funds. In the event that no personnel report a SCP-9441 event for a period of one year, participation is to be incentivized and sessions increased in frequently until a SCP-9441 event is reported.
Description: SCP-9441 is the designation given to a recurring phenomenon associated with casual play of the Filipino variant of Mahjong. SCP-9441 related phenomena appear to be associated with physically playing the game. Testing with robotic manipulators, individuals instructed to play as proxies, and digital versions of Mahjong have failed to trigger SCP-9441 events. Additionally, players compelled to participate against their will, players without a functioning grasp of the rules of Filipino Mahjong, and players actively colluding to trigger a SCP-9441 event will not trigger a SCP-9441 event.
A SCP-9441 event is triggered when a player wins the game under the following criteria:
- The winning player has not called a pung, kang, or chow.
- The winning player declares búnot.
- The winning player has, over the course of the game, drawn the North, East, and West winds, and no other flowers.
As the odds of the following events happening naturally in the course of regular play are low, SCP-9441 events are estimated to occur to non-Foundation personnel an average of once a year. The following phenomena have been documented upon the occurrence of SCP-9441 events in the vicinity of the players:
- Temporary agitation of local insects
- Unusually low tides in nearby bodies of water
- Family photos in personal accommodations flipped around, fallen to the floor, or vanished
- Temporary localized lunar eclipse
The winning player in a SCP-9441 event (hereafter referred to as Subject) vanishes from reality the next time they sleep following the occurrence of a SCP-9441 event, returning the following morning in all documented occurrences. Subjects view the events that occur to them during this period as a dream. Subjects report the contents of the dream as playing Mahjong with a family (designated SCP-9441-A, SCP-9441-B, and SCP-9441-C, respectively) with themselves occupying the southern seat. Any winnings or losses made by the subject are anomalously transferred to their personal funds. The experience seems to be difficult to recall in detail, as subjects have trouble describing details beyond the course of the played Mahjong game. Subjects instructed to pay close attention to specific players have allowed for the creation of rough profiles, outlined below.
- SCP-9441-A
- SCP-9441-B
- SCP-9441-C
Portrait of a colonial Spanish priest
The following details have been collected about the entity designated SCP-9441-A:
- SCP-9441-A typically occupies the West seat.
- SCP-9441-A appears to be of Spanish descent.
- SCP-9441-A is dressed in clothing typical to the end of Spanish colonial control of the Phillipines.
- Of the three players, SCP-9441-A is the most talkative - several details about SCP-9441-B and SCP-9441-C are attributed to conversation with SCP-9441-A.
- SCP-9441-A claims to be a curate of a small Filipino parish.
- SCP-9441-A claims to be a manananggál.
- SCP-9441-A tends to play more conservatively.
Analysis has granted SCP-9441-A a tenuous Object Class of Euclid, should it manifest in baseline reality. Countermeasures based on recovered information are currently under development.
Illustration of SCP-9441-B's victims
The following details have been collected about the entity designated SCP-9441-B:
- SCP-9441-B typically occupies the East seat.
- SCP-9441-B is larger than SCP-9441-A, but smaller than SCP-9441-C.
- SCP-9441-B is constantly dripping with swamp water.
- SCP-9441-B smells like rotting meat.
- SCP-9441-B speaks in short, guttural utterances.
- According to SCP-9441-A, SCP-9441-B is a Berberoka.
- SCP-9441-B tends to play more aggressively.
Analysis has granted SCP-9441-B a tenuous Object Class of Euclid, should it manifest in baseline reality. Countermeasures based on recovered information are currently under development.
Lunar eclipse attributed to SCP-9441-C
The following details have been collected about the entity designated SCP-9441-C:
- SCP-9441-C typically occupies the North seat.
- SCP-9441-C is larger than SCP-9441-B.
- SCP-9441-C does not speak.
- SCP-9441-C appears to be composed of an unknown metal.
- SCP-9441-C has feathered wings.
- SCP-9441-C hears and sees through its mouth.
- SCP-9441-C's mouth is larger than SCP-9441-B.
- According to SCP-9441-A, SCP-9441-C is the Minokawa-bird.
- SCP-9441-C will nearly always attempt to win via búnot.
Analysis has granted SCP-9441-C a tenuous Object Class of Keter, should it manifest in baseline reality. Countermeasures based on recovered information are currently under development. It has been noted that SCP-9441-C's manifestation in baseline reality, assuming SCP-9441-C adheres to traditional depictions of the Minokawa-bird, would likely constitute an XK-class Extinction-Event Scenario.
Addendum: While SCP-9441 events tend to corrupt or destroy recording devices, audio recording devices given to subjects prior to sleeping occasionally retain snippets of intelligible conversation, organized chronologically below.
DATE: 12/03/1998
SUBJECT: Dr. Perez
SCP-9441-A: (unintelligible), and bless you, my son. Kang.
Dr. Perez: Thank you, Father. The three of you must not get to play very often.
SCP-9441-A: It can be difficult to find a fourth to play with us. No fun playing with someone unlucky, eh?
SCP-9441-B: (unintelligible)
SCP-9441-A: (unintelligible) going without more players.

SUBJECT: Sgt. Manalo
SCP-9441-A: (unintelligible) pay up, you stupid bird!
SCP-9441-C caws. Audio distortion noticeably increases.
SCP-9441-A: I've told you a thousand times, it's a ridiculous strategy. It only works for one of the meatbags, like, once a year.
SCP-9441-B: (unintelligible)
Sgt. Manalo: You're very kind, Berberoka, no flesh for me.

SCP-9441-B: (unintelligible) riverbed (unintelligible).
Sgt. Ramos: Lovely. How about you, Father?
SCP-9441-A: Oh, I'll go back to my old parish, settle back into the church. None of you natives ever suspected a man of the cloth. I'll be up to my old tricks in no time.
Sgt. Ramos: Uh huh.
SCP-9441-C caws. Audio distortion noticeably increases.
Sgt. Ramos: (unintelligible) ridiculously lucky.

SUBJECT: Dr. Perez
SCP-9441-A: (unintelligible) look older, doctor.
Dr. Perez: You haven't aged a day, Father. But I figure I'm due.
SCP-9441-A: Hah! You wish.
Dr. Perez: How long have you guys been playing, anyways?
SCP-9441-A: Long time. Honestly, we've all got things to do, but it's just such fun.

Dr. Lim: C'mon, Father, let's play another. What do you all really have going on?
SCP-9441-B: (unintelligible).
SCP-9441-A: Yes, and I could really go for something fresh. Oh, and Minokawa's due to swallow the sun and moon. We haven't been playing that long, doctor. The people still know how to play that song to scare Minokawa away so he spits them back up, right? With the… gongs and such?
Dr. Lim: (unintelligible) quit while you're down, Minokawa.
SCP-9441-C caws. Audio distortion noticeably increases.
