Special Containment Procedures: Psychiatric and medical institutions are to be monitored for reports consistent with SCP-9501 experiences. Affected individuals are to be catalogued and amnesticized. Foundation aerial surveillance and satellite monitoring are ongoing to locate additional instances.

Description: SCP-9501 designates a series of chairs that appear spontaneously at varying altitudes worldwide. The chairs remain suspended in mid-air with no visible means of support, positioned to face views of the surrounding landscape. Instances appear and disappear without a pattern. Physical interaction with located instances results in the immediate disappearance of the chair.

During episodes of acute psychological distress, some affected individuals report finding themselves seated in one of these chairs. Selection appears random. Documented triggers include dissociative episodes, depersonalization, derealization, and severe detachment from self or surroundings. The severity of the precipitating psychological event appears to correlate with the altitude of the chair experienced.

It is unknown whether physical displacement occurs or if subjects experience a perceptual phenomenon while the chairs remain unoccupied. Subjects are unable to articulate specific details of either the experience or the events immediately preceding manifestation. Attempts to voluntarily induce manifestations have been unsuccessful.
