Special Containment Procedures: The Foundation does not currently have enough information on SCP-9135. SCP-9135's research is ongoing to determine proper containment procedures.

Description: SCP-9135 is a highly organized cloud with a rain-free base, wall cloud, and anvil top. It should be noted that SCP-9135 is currently intensifying into a supercell thunderstorm.

SCP-9135 escalating.

This escalating behavior should be documented and observed for further research into SCP-9135's containment procedures.

Document: Research Logs

Further research will be treated with caution as SCP-9135 develops a hail core. Testing will determine changes to SCP-9135 from pending to a fitting class to happen immediately for proper protocol on containment. This testing is available to a third party connected to The National Weather Service called CoCoRaHS.

Subject: Hailstone from SCP-9135.

Procedure: Expose the hailstone to a bunsen burner to attempt to melt it since the hailstone did not melt in warm air when falling. The bunsen burner was set on the lowest setting which is around 300°C–600°C then set to the highest setting around 1,500°C to check signs of melting.

Result: Hailstone did not react to the bunsen burner at the lowest setting. It was later attempt to raise the heat with the bunsen burner. The hailstone melted at the highest temperature.

Hailstone Data Collection

  • Temperature Set: 1560 °C (2840 °F)

  • Melt Speed: 10 mintues, hailstone didn't show signs of melting.

  • Temperature Set: 1,600 °C (2912 °F)

  • Melt Speed: 15 mintues, hailstone shown signs of melting.

  • Temperature Set: 1,100–1,200 °C (2,000–2,200 °F)

  • Melt Speed: 12 seconds, hailstone fully melted.

After the hailstone fully melted, the liquid from the hailstone turnt a green color. This is unusual behavior that was noted.

Subject: Liquid from hailstone

Procedure: Skin exposure

Result:

Did the liquid present harm towards the skin or any other body part?

  • Harmful factors are not present. See below for details.

Details: The liquid did not burn through the gloves nor the skin. The liquid also did not show any signs of causing rashes or any other skin infections. The liquid was put into a proper biowaste bin after testing.

Subject: Hailstone from SCP-9135.

Procedure: Harmful factors that are similar or different from SCP-9135.

Result:

Hailstone Harm

Similar or different?

  • Neither

Harmful factors or are harmful factors not present?

  • Harmful factors are not present. See below for details.

Details: The hailstone presented an anomalous behavior that is not harmful towards citizens. Research is to continue as rapid growth is being watched.

The National Weather Service scanned the area around SCP-9135, the scan was later sent in to the Foundation. SCP-9135 is expected to rapidly grow. Due to this behavior, SCP-9135 is to be immediately changed from pending to euclid due to SCP-9135 being a risk to freely roam with a harm to human life. An additional experiment is to be held to determine any harmful factors inside SCP-9135 that the radar scan may have missed.

Document: Experiment Logs

Subject: Weather Balloon #35

none

Procedure: Releasing the weather balloon into the atmosphere to collect data on SCP-9135.

Result: The data was collected from Weather balloon #35 and stored inside the foundation database. The data was later observed and approved by the foundation’s astronomical/meteorological forecasting office with the National Weather Service.

Weather Balloon #35 Data Collection

  • Temperature: 28s°C to low 21s°C (70s°F to low 80s°F.)

  • Humidity: 78% to 89%.

  • Wind speed and direction: Southwest wind to 45-54 mph.

  • Atmospheric pressure: 753.1 mm Hg (1004 hPa/mb).

  • Geopotential height: 2100 UTC.

Harmful factors or are harmful factors not present?

  • Harmful, see details below.

Details: The data above shows signs of a powerful tornado possible. Any weather equipment stored inside Site-76 should be packed up for immediate disptach of MTF personnel incase of emergency.

Addendum: MTF Psi-13 (“SkyCast") should be alerted immediately for immediate dispatch with the weather equipment at the sign of direct harm to human life by SCP-9135. Any personnel who are not willing to be dispatched should be advised to stay away.

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-9135's research is now ongoing to determine proper containment procedures. MTF personnel are to be on stand by for the active containment and continual observation of SCP-9135 if it directly hurts human life. No special safety procedures are to be taken until immediate signs of irregular behavior from SCP-9135 are shown.

Description: SCP-9135 is a supercell thunderstorm that citizens describe as a "mothership." SCP-9135 may produce large hail, strong winds, and tornadoes as it continues to develop in strength.

Example of RFD on a graph for observation.

Within the time that SCP-9135 continues to increase in strength, it should be noted that SCP-9135 now has a persistently rotating wall cloud with a Rear Flank Downdraft (RFD). After a rapid-scan with Doppler on Wheels 6 (DOW 6). A tightening rotation in RFD has been noted in SCP-9135's wall cloud for a potential dangerous tornado.

Addendum: MTF personnel should be alerted immediately for immediate dispatch at the sign of direct harm to human life by SCP-9135. No direct harm has been noted to human life as SCP-9135 approaches Joplin Missouri at 4:34 p.m. CDT

Update: Changes to SCP-9135 from Pending to Safe are to happen immediately. Keter is to be considered if SCP-9135 intensifies more.

Addendum: SCP-9135 has been observed with a hook echo with rapidly intensifying behavior. The tornado officially touched ground from SCP-9135 at 5:34 p.m CDT as a tornado emergency was issued. All broadcasts must immediately show the EAS to warn civilians. Changes to SCP-9135 from Safe to Keter are to happen immediately. Previous classes should be noted as well. Special safety procedures are to be taken immediately to ensure attempted containment of SCP-9135.

Special Containment Procedures: MTF Psi-13 (“SkyCast") has been assigned to the active containment and continual observation of SCP-9135. SCP-9135 is left uncontained by the Foundation due to ongoing issues with SCP-9135 not dissipating during the dispatching of MTF personnel. Special safety procedures for containment are to be immediately postponed until further research.

MTF personnel dispatching in DOW6.

Description: SCP-9135 is an extremely violent tornado that is attached to the base of a highly organized thunderstorm.

SCP-9135 is able to jump from cloud to cloud, causing SCP-9135 to be able to appear in another location. Due to this ability, SCP-9135 has been known to cause mass ruination.

Discovery Log: SCP-9135 was first discovered when the National Weather Service (NWS) first reported the thunderous supercell on the WSR-88D (Weather Surveillance Radar-1988 Doppler), also known as NEXRAD.

NEXRAD Scan:

On Sunday, May 22, 2011, the National Weather Service first pinged the thunderous tornadic supercell on the WSR-88D.

The Foundation requested to have the radar scan from the instance to further analyze the data.

Discovery Report: After further analysis, it has been determined that SCP-9135 is extremely dangerous and must be contained to avoid harming personnel not a part of MTF Psi-13 (“SkyCast").

SCP-9135 has been classified as an particularly devastating tornado by the National Weather Service, as SCP-9135 has been found to hit over 200 mph (322 km/h) in over an hour due to rapid growth. Any personnel willing to enter the tornado zone must sign a liability waiver for their life possibly being taken. Any personnel who does not sign the liability waiver, will not be allowed to join MTF Psi-13 (“SkyCast")'s mission.

MTF Psi-13 (“SkyCast") Mission:

MTF personnel have been dispatched with cameras to Joplin, Missouri, with SKYWARN® volunteers. Any injuries reported during the mission will be treated by medical staff allowed to work with MTF Psi-13 (“SkyCast").

VIDEO LOG

DATE: 5/22/2011.

NOTE: Any recording that is listed must be placed under public domain to allow for further analysis by the National Weather Service.

[BEGIN LOG]

The radio clicks from inside the MTF personnel's vehicle.

Richard Gray: Reporting we made it to Joplin Missouri, copy.

A short pause between the next transmission.

Foundation: Copied.

Comms are left open as MTF personnel drive down the road.

After multiple hours of traveling behind the chasers, MTF Psi-13 (“SkyCast") arrived at SCP-9135's current location.

Richard Gray: Reporting SCP-9135 spotted, over

Richard said into the radio.

Foundation: Copy.

The MTF personnel pulled over as they spotted SCP-9135.

none

Kenneth Williams: Shit shit- its attempting to jump cloud-to-cloud, Richard!

They attempt to reach for the radio.

Richard Gray: Kenneth stop!

He pulled the radio away, before looking over at SCP-9135 failing to jump.

Timothy Roosevelt: It's like a finger of God.. it just doesn't stop..

SCP-9135 rapidly weakened as it fizzled out into a rope-like form.

Kenneth Williams: It's.. its weakening.

Timothy Roosevelt: Nevermind my previous statement..

Richard Gray: Thanks captain obvious.

Kenneth Williams hits Richard Gray on the arm.

Richard Gray: Ow.

Timothy Roosevelt: You two need to stop fighting before we lose track of our mission.

Richard Gray: Right right.

He pushed the button in the middle console.

The tornado probe rockets went off after the button press into SCP-9135. 6 seconds passed before the rockets got sucked up into the inflow.

Nothing happened for a moment as SCP-9135 stood still.

Richard Gray: It should collect any data, I hope. We just have to pray it dies soon.

Timothy Roosevelt: Right..

It fell quiet for a moment.

Kenneth Williams: Look!

SCP-9135 dissipated from view suddenly.

Richard grabs the radio

Richard Gray: Reporting SCP-9135 dissipated from view.

It went quiet for a moment again.

The rockets fell from the middle of the tornado with a few carcasses that were dismembered, lacking limbs, decapitated, or skinned.

Richard Gray: Shit..

Richard gags looking at the decapitated cow fused with a goat. The carcasse twitched a bit.

Kenneth Williams: Ugh, let's get out of here.

Richard Gray: Copy.

The chasers collected the rockets as MTF personnel collected the carcasses. The carcasses were later disposed of in a proper waste container, hidden from the public.

Comms are closed, cameras are turned off.

[END LOG]

Addendum: After the successful mission, the Foundation contacted the National Weather Service with a request to keep SCP-9135's anomalous abilities hidden from the public. The National Weather Service approved of the Foundation's request. SCP-9135's data is now available to the public as long as the anomalous properties are not mentioned.

These anomalous properties include the following:

  • SCP-9135 being able to skin individuals alive with its extreme wind speeds.

Update: Later identified by the National Weather Service as a rare instance of the wind speeds being fast enough to cause tearing onto the body.

  • SCP-9135 causing headaches for MTF personnel.

Update: These headaches reported getting worse by personnel as they got closer to SCP-9135. Any personnel who stayed closer then 5 seconds, dropped dead. The cause of this is unknown.

  • SCP-9135 can wrap itself in rain for 5 minutes when feeling threatened.

Update: The National Weather Service later identified this as a rain-wrapped tornado. This was later written down as non-anomalous by MTF Psi-13 ("Skycast") members.

Special Containment Procedures: MTF Psi-13 (“SkyCast") has been commanded to return to the Foundation after SCP-9135's dissipation. Special safety procedures for containment are to be immediately dropped. No further containment is needed due to SCP-9135 no longer being considered anomalous by nature by the foundation.

Description: SCP-9135 dissipated into the supercell thunderstorm as the skies cleared. No further information is to be added into SCP-9135's file due to no new information.

Discovery Report: New data collection from the National Weather Service has found that SCP-9135 has caused affected people to form a rare fungal infection called mucormycosis or Apophysomyces trapeziformis.

Mucormycosis (Apophysomyces trapeziformis) in an effected citizen.

This fungal infection has been deemed flesh-eating after a citizen of Joplin reported blackening of wounds. The city of Joplin's hospital has since removed the affected citizens' skin to avoid the fungus further spreading.

This fungal infection has been noted to include other effects such as:

  • Headaches.
  • Inflammation.
  • Visible white/fluffy mold on wound.
  • Severe pain.
  • Death

It is believed that MTF personnel fell dead from the symptoms above. These symptoms are not caused directly from SCP-9135. Any personnel reading this file must scrap the direct cause of SCP-9135 from any documentation. Otherwise, there is no found cause of the fungus at this time.

Discovery Report: It was later discovered by Department of Biology that the cause of the fungus was contaminated soil getting into the effected citizens wounds.

Mucormycosis or Apophysomyces trapeziformis is noted to be commonly found in soils, decaying vegetation, and water containing organic matter such as leaves and soil after this discovery. It is also airborne.

Additional Note: Due to the airborne state of the rare fungal infection, all personnel must wear proper PPE to ensure the infection does not spread.

Discovery Log: After surveying the aftermath of SCP-9135, it has been confirmed this rare fungal infection has been caused as a side-effect of SCP-9135's debris path. It is uncertain how widespread this rare fungal infection is.

SCP-9135's debris path.

Update: Any personnel going to Joplin, Missouri to help aid in the clean-up must wear proper PPE. Otherwise, due to this new discovery, any citizen affected by the rare fungal infection must report to the city of Joplin's hospital immediately for treatment. No Foundation personnel working in the medical department can provide aid to a citizen.

Addendum: SCP-9135's file has been released to the public at the National Weather Service's request, as SCP-9135 is no longer considered anomalous due to SCP-9135 being currently neutralized as of Sunday, May 22, 2011, 6:12 p.m. CDT.  Upon releasing the file to the public, 163 fatalities have been reported by the Red Cross®.

In memorial of the citizens lost in SCP-9135's aftermath.

Addendum: The city of Joplin has proposed a memorial that will now be publicly displayed. The Foundation requested that the city of Joplin remove any mention of MTF Psi-13 ("Skycast") in any documentation. The city of Joplin approved of the request. Any newspaper outlets must remove mentions of the foundation's internal help.

The Citizens of Joplin, Missouri thank President Obama for his efforts to rebuild the community after the devastation of the EF-5 tornado. It was claimed as a national tragedy, and caused a mobilized FEMA for immediate aid. President Obama attended a memorial service to comfort survivors. One of the many survivors spoke up during the memorial.

"The Lord is watching over all of us. The Lord is our refuge and strength. And as the tornado bore down, the children said the Butterfly People protected them. That is the lord's grace to us all."

After the service concluded, President Obama pledged long-term federal support for rebuilding the community. The rebuilding project is proposed to be finished within three to five years and will cost $2.8 billion to $3 billion to replace homes, businesses, schools, and infrastructure.

I'm glad someone is asking this finally, I know somewhat about the butterfly people because my sister made this origami butterfly before the tornado hit and she talked about seeing people with wings. Unfortunately, she died after the tornado hit and that's the only thing I have left of her.

none

But, I'm pretty sure she was talking about angels the more I think about it. I hope that answered your question.

HollyBerry 12:15 pm · 5/24/2011

I'm sorry for your loss, it must've hurt losing your sister like that. Also, you did answer my question. Thanks.

You too.

Update: Following the newspaper publication with the online discussion on Twitter, survivors of SCP-9135 reported seeing figures with wings as the tornado ripped through the town. No additional information has been given to the Foundation by the citizens of Joplin at this time.

Addendum: The National Weather Service has requested that no new information should be added to SCP-9135's file out of respect to the affected citizens of Joplin, Missouri.
